History

Our department was established as Biostatistics and Medical Informatics Department under the Faculty of Medicine, Basic Medical Sciences Department by the correspondence no 1054 of Board of Higher Education, dated 16.05.2005.

Our department was established according to the perspective for functioning in education and research and development in Biostatistics and Medical Informatics. The most prominent feature which distinguishes our department from other departments is that the department considers medical informatics as an inseparable component of the field. Today, the processing of all kinds of digital and non-digital (audios, videos and photographs) is being substantially influenced by the developments in the information technologies. Therefore, it is not possible to consider Biostatistics, with its focus of interest being the processing and the interpretation of these data, separately from informatics.
